Hi all my disco 2 has been trouble free for over a year - yes really !!
However today I left the car unlocked for a bit and then when I went to start it
It was dead. I can hear the starter relay and the fuel pumps but it does not turn over. It does not seem to be a battery issue as. I have lights etc, the central locking does not work from the key fob so I m guessing it's an immobiliser issue ?.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

can't be immobilised if it was unlocked, also the immobiliser would cut the starter relay(so no click) and the pump... try to jump start it or bump start it then fix the roof receiver... hopefully it's not a BCU fault... do you hear a louder click when you turn to crank?​

Hi I really appreciate your help on this. This morning brings a new element to the puzzle
In that when I turn the ignition key just before starting there is a buzzing which sounds like it is coming from behind the instrument panel. Then when you turn the key to start you just get a click. ?

if the click is quite loud and from the starter area that's what you need(very common issue) LANDROVER DISCOVERY & DEFENDER TD5 DENSO STARTER MOTOR CONTACT REPAIR KIT | eBay, that buzzing noise might be the interior air temp. sensor which used to get clogged by dust then it makes a buzzing noise, you must remove it, clean it and lubricate it some info here interior temp sensor - Land Rover Forums - Land Rover Enthusiast Forum

to be able to start it give a real good charge to the battery or use a starting robot cos if the power is greater that plunger hits with bigger force and it might make contact though

We'll....I did the EKA and now it's starts fine. I can lock the car with the key in door lock and the central locking works. but not from the key fob. Is there any way to check the receiver with out pulling the car to bits ? Or something else to check first ?.
Thanks again for your help you are always very quick to get stuck in and it's much appreciated.

Have you tried new battery's in your fobs. (Just to Rule them out) and if nothing the receiver is in the roof just in front of rear sunroof off to passenger side . It don't take much to get to ,just the trim round rear sunroof pulls off and then a few screws from centre light and other trim bits . Then just 2 screws to undo receiver it's a little black box that's just plugs in you might find there's a little foam pad in front of it blocking your view of it . Once out check for any water damage . Clean dry well if needed then refit and see how see fares . They are about £50 from LR and are just plug and play if you fancy just going for a new one

the only 'non-invasive' way to check the receiver is with dedicated tester, otherwise it's plug and play, if you get a new/known good one and swap it it will work if it's not some other trouble, you just have to release a bit the rooflining at the front of the rear sunroof

i reiterate: if previously you heard a click on ignition to crank that EKA thing was just some coincidence, the EKA is only for immobilised situation and THE IMMOBILISER CUTS THE STARTER RELAY,

depending on the alarm's setting, if the fob doesnt work you might get it immobilised by unlocking with the key instead of the fob, then you'll need the EKA

Yes, I replaced the battery in the Fob yesterday night, I think I will fit an new receiver
And see what happens.

I have to be honest and say I was very surprised that the EKA worked but the more I read about LR's ......anything is possible. So it sounds like the best bet is to replace the receiver to avoid possible conflict ?
