Quick question, Excuse my ignorance but i am fairly new to 4x4s, But what are the cables connecting the roof rack to the front of the bonnet for on the Camel Landrover for? Are they just another way of fastening the roof rack or do they serve any other purposes?

I find it not advisable to have such attached to vehicle on-road, as it could cause extreme harm if hitting pedestrians...would probably cut a person in two. So it is necessary to make it detachable. To make it easily detachable, it is based on using shackles up front, and running free behind a roof bar..

For each side, a short length of wire was cut, and pulled through a piece of old hose. In each end made a short loop, and fastened with wire-clamps. Through these two loops runs a shackle to hold it together after pulling around top of bullbar. If bullbar has eyehooks, that's a better way of fastening the wire.

A long lenght of wire runs from this shackle, behind a Thule roofbar, and forward to bullbar on other side, where it is attached to a turnbuckle. Tightening the turnbuckle, the limb risers will go tight, which is needed to lift thicker limbs off top of vehicle. Or the roofbar can be pushed further backwards, which is easiest way of initial tightening the limb risers.

Would not surprise me, you can fail a MOT if there is sharp of hazardous material on the front of a vehicle that could harm a pedestrian, however this is mostly reserved for sharp rusted corners.

have a feeling mine were still on when landy went through MOT:confused: taken them off now tho because they do nearly garotte you when you're trying to do anything under the bonnet:rolleyes:

The wire is a round cross section so is it technically sharp? Possibly not
Is it likely to cause injury? It would be very likely in an accident with a pedestrian.

But then again Bull bars are not sharp!
