Hi All,
I have been around for a while and think it time to state my problem. I want a Defender 90, probably a 200/300/TD5, budget about £4500 all in for a reasonable car/van/pickup. Should I go for a newer TD5 that needs lots of work, or an older 200 that has had it all done? Am I being realistic with the price? I want to use the car for occasional mild offroading, trailer towing and general fetching and carrying. No commuting, I'm retired!:D

Seems lots of knowledgeable folk on here.

Ex utilities at a commercial auction cheapest way.

Td5 newer but will have mega miles and heads fail, 300tdi may be a better long term bet

£4.5k will get a nice 300 but probably a poor td5. At that price it's condition before age.
Oh welcome by the way

Thanks for the welcome. I just bought a 90 pickup converted to 200tdi, 88 model with mud tyres and 2in lift. Oh dear, what have I done! Chassis has no welding but will need a couple of plates next year. Bulkhead is reasonable, again maybe a plate next year. Once I fix a few minor problems should be good to go.
