Had a Bell Engineering VCU & GKN bearings from Foundry 4x4 fitted by Austen earlier today and I have to say it's money we'll spent!

The FL had covered 122k on what we believed to be it's original VCU, it was quite warm when taken off and one of the bearings was pretty shot

It definitely felt a lot better on the drive back, even my mate who'd come along for the trip commented how much smoother it felt. So, I know it wasn't just the placebo effect of spending money on the thing!

Anyway, hats off to Austen (and his Dad) for top service all round

When you say smoother,
could you elaborate so I can tell if I am due the same change..

With mine it was vibaration free afterwards - I had some vibrations beyond about 90kph before the change (that only I, the driver seemed to notice!) but after changing the VCU and bearings it was vibration free - probably the bearings made the difference. However, on turning tight corners and parking, the car seemed so much easier and free-er - now that is probably the VCU.

Pretty much as above, I was feeling a slight vibration through the centre arm rest probably due to the worn bearing and the damper on my VCU was beginning to 'let go' and also the gear changes (auto) now seem smoother, especially 4th to 5th.

I've had the FL just over a year and it feels better than how it was when I first got it. Guess the VCU degradation just kinda creeps up on you, but we have been warned…

do the bearings have a time limit or service interval to replace them?

well i've just bought a 53 plate td4 with 74k on the clock so want to look out for problems before they get too big like this issue/problem. what is the tell tale signs? vibration on pulling away or at speed etc?

One thing I have noticed since having the VCU replaced is that the fuel economy appears to have improved.

Plenty of info here on the forum about the VCU…
