I dont know if this has been done before, i have never seen it. I was putting in new wheel bearings in the front of my ninety. Looking around for something big enough to drift the seal into the rear of the disc/bearing housing. I looked at the thick drive flange laying on the wing of the land rover waiting to be re-assembled. To my suprise the inside of the drive flange has a rim that is exactly the right size to drift the seal in. It also fits nicely with the raised edge of the seal without damaging it. If you don't have proper seal drivers, its a good way of doing it

Sneaky - I like it!

If you're using a press another good tip for this is to take the old bearing race, split it with an angle grinder and use that to get far enough up to put a press block on the race and push it in. The split race will then pop out nicely leaving the new race driven in nice and straight.

Very good tip, though - well said!

Thanks for the replies. I use the two old bearing races as drifts to drive in the new bearing races. I grind at least 1mm around the whole circumference of both the races so they dont snag in the housing. Line up the new bearing race with one old ground race on top, tap around with a hammer until flush then put the second ground bearing race on top of that and tap around with the hammer again until the new bearing race is butted up against the stop. Then pull the ground bearing races out. Job done.
