Don't know if anyone's interested but thought I would post my slooooow progress on my '89 300tdi which I recently bought. Got a few plans to improve her. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343944218.601431.jpg

Started today to change the paint, gonna do a bit at a time due to it needing to be on the road all the time and short on the old wonga. Anyway decided gonna hand paint with rustoleum, started the bonnet today but probably needs another coat. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1343944380.703806.jpg

So finally managed to do a bit more, a change of colour


I think the Rustoleum will come out alright, just need to repair the front doors, getting some strange looks with my multi coloured Landy:cool:

By saying that "I just need to repair the front doors", I didn't mean that, there is a lot more to do. I was just thinking out loud:confused::confused::confused:
 
I have, that is only the first 2 coats, haven't flatted it off yet and put another on, need the car for work so doing a bit at a time, wings next

I have been looking at rustoleum on 'you tube ' and Internet , loads of people painting campers with it . I need to commit to starting doing same to mine , Yours looks great in pics keep us posted on how it's going :cool:
 
looks nice, got a repaint on the list for mine, want to clean and paint the chassis first, not much good in the top looking nice if the undersides falling apart!!
 
a friend of mine builds kit cars and hot rods and he told me "right lad, when it comes to painting ya landy right, get a cap of petrol an and mix it in. then ye just use a brush it on with a brush... job done lad"

i was actually thinking, surly this cant be true. so i went down an took a look at his hot-rod hes working on and the pain job was amazing. no rollers just a brush he said. the petrol help with a smooth finish so there's no streaks and it gets rid of all the air bubbles in the paint when your putting it on. was an immaculate job.

That's some interesting stuff, but I'm too much of a pussy to add petrol to it when I get round to painting mine :rolleyes:
 
Got both the sides done now, need to now learn how to weld and borrow a welder to fettle the doors prior to painting. :) Money is tight and the cost of reasonable second hand doors is a bit steep:eek:
Couldn't get too much done yesterday as had to modify my garage to keep it inside, absolutely sick of my neighbour coming to tell me that another group of SH##heads have been eyeing up my Landy.:mad:
Anyway I can get it in now so that should sort it.
I'll upload some pictures soon.

By the way, I have listened to what goonarmy said and I am going to add a bit more black so I can get up hills.
 
Don't forget to keep updating with pics , I called at a body shop today to humour myself. Asked guy how much to spray just the outside of the Landy and he replied minimum £1500 !!......do yes I will be doing a roller job as well .....
 
Did a bit more today but while I was messing about thought I would check the bulkhead, not too great!!!! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347140109.139831.jpg

Cleaned the holes up, treat with the rust stop stuff then filled the bulkhead with wax oil. I don't know if this was right but seemed a fairly common sense approach, then fibreglassed and filled.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347140283.292089.jpg

Then I painted plenty of the old rustoleum ready for the new seal.

Trouble is I got carried away and while the sun was out decided to replace the foam seals between the tub and top, gotta put my car back together tomorrow. Needs it for work on Monday!!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1347140486.087439.jpg

i love the sight of working progress on a fender. looking at rebuilding mine while its off the road for the next 2 years. ill keep this tab for future reference :)

Like I said before, lack of money and needing it for work is slowing the process down but I'll keep batting on!!
