Hello everybody

I live near St Austell in Cornwall.

In July I bought a Disco 2 from a local garage (first mistake), saw the ad on ebay. The car is a Japanese import and the seller told me the mileage was in kms; of course it was in miles and how I wish I had taken it back when I realised!!

The garage MOT'd it and changed the cam belt. Seller told me the sun roofs didn't leak, but the back one might just as well not be there!!

Okay, since then I have had many many problems; situation at the moment:

sunroof leaks, roof full of water (bought a new seal, waiting for help to put it in)
rear wiper not working
heated rear window not working
intermittent wipe not working
interior lights wouldn't go out,so bulbs removed
rear wiper came on and wouldn't be turned off, before stopping all together
bonnet opening handle came off

On the plus side, yes there is one, the vehicle is 100% solid underneath.

Now, I realise that the leak has got to be sorted ASAP, but I would like to ask if there is a reliable person locally known to members of this forum that can sort this vehicle out once and for all and not over charge me!

My other problem is fuel consumption; it is a diesel automatic. I really only travel to my daughter's under 10 miles away, but £20 diesel at Tesco price will only get me there and back 3 times. Surely this can't be right?? The engine is good and serviced and I have just bought 2 Ecoflows.

My apologies for the lengthy post, I am depressed and down about all of this and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Sue

Sorry to read about your problems. I personally haven't had a disco with sunroofs that didn't leak (although some don't). Silicone was my solution, you cant open it but it stopped the water. Have a look at this thread

As for fuel consumption are you just going by the gauge or have you filled it right up and worked out what it's actually doing to the gallon? I know autos are more thirsty than manuals but you need to brim fill it, drive till about half a tank has gone and brim fill it again. See how many miles you've done for the amount of diesel used.

With diesel being about £6:40 a gallon (round here anyway - probably more in Cornwall) you're getting around 18 ish from what you tell us. I don't know how average that is but if you're only doing short runs you'll never get great economy from it. Our last 200tdi manual returned about 27mpg on average from a mixture of driving

As for the electrical problems, that's really a case of methodical checking and ruling out things or giving it do a decent auto electrician for a day or 2. Will the garage you bought it from not sort these things? I'd have been straight back there, you do have certain rights buying from a dealer as opposed to a private sale.
