You're right Datatek but they suggested Mackie Automatic and Manual Transmission in Glasgow. They've given me a price to refurb the TC and transmission and replace the oil cooler for just under £2400 ex vat with a 3 year warranty. This is about half the money I was quoted by the dealer for a new TC and transmission with no mention of changing the oil cooler and only one year warranty. The car is on its way to them, I'll report back with the result.
 
oil cooler change is a must imo & if you can stretch a few quid more change the pipes aswell;)
 
Picked up the car from Mackie in Glasgow last week and the gearbox seems to be working well. The total cost was £2515 ex vat, a little more than quoted since they had to fit a new selector cable as well. So far so good and their 3 year warranty gives me more than a little peace of mind.
Many thanks to all for the help in getting me back into the RR:high5:. I've been driving my 1999 manual shift Wrangler which is fun but .. well a very different driving experience:eek:
