hi all, im looking to buy new injectors for my 97 dse, and an advert popped up for new nozzles, 6 nozzles for £64.99, against 5 injectors maybe £100, each, as any one used just nozzle replacement ?, as i recently took mine apart and cleaned them and noticed that 50% of the internals are in the top bit. thanks, bobby.

ive never done p38 injectors but when i rebuilted lucas injectors thats all that was involved apart from cleaning and setting as with most reconditioners the wearing part is the nozzle

hi jamesmartin, the p38 injectors are quite low tech but the spring is in the top bit, as i was wondering if the spray tip in the nozzle is worn ,would the spring also be worn? if so it might be just as wise to get the injectors, if they are the origenal injectors theyve done 147000 miles, now in a recent engine replacement thats done about 45000 miles and, can reconditioned injectors be trusted? thanks

depends springs are usually adjustable either by screw or shims

Get reconditioned injectors. Changing the nozzles is easy, setting them to the correct crack pressure is not without a special test rig.

hi wammers, do you know any trusting reconditioners who actually change worn springs and bits and, dont just clean and change spray tips like the tosser in hackney does, or am i to untrusting, i think kent diesels sounds the most promising for me, ill call them tomorrow.

that goes without saying you should never strip an injector without getting pressure set and checked

all recon injectors should have new nozzles dont buy any that havent if unsure ask and insist

hi james, so, my injectors were a bitch to crack open, didnt seem like they were set to any torque value and, all parts went back in the same way and the same injector,i understand the crack open spray pressure, but thought that came from the spring pressurer thats why the original question was ,a new nozzle mating up to an old spring, but any way, nozzles are out ill check out some reputable injector people in the morning or if anybody knows of any let me know and ill check them out. many thanks

thats the vital part cracking pressure , it does come from the spring and thats what is set, the spring either by shims or screw adjuster to achieve the correct pressure ,every time an injectors taken apart crack off pressure should be checked along with spray pattern

its a shim on these ones, on reflection buying new maybe the way, i might buy one a week, recons aint going to be cheap? anyway ill check in the morning,thanks james.

There is a post on a Vauxhall forum re. overhauling injectors. The guy had success rebuilding his with new nozzles, they did need ultra-sonic cleaning,

You can get them service exchange for around £35.00 each. All wearing parts renewed and set to correct crack off pressure.

hi data, yes ive seen his name before thanks for reminding me, i cant remember if i said to you im waiting for my friend to get better to do the air con fan conversion, as hes a retired auto electrician but as just had his cataracts done, a bit selfish i thought, he could of waited, but ill let him off, thanks data.

full recon on all 6 is about £190 and they are like new injectors when they come back

I had all my injectors tested as my P38 has done 144000 miles, I suspected the pump had a fault- which was confirmed.
I had the injectors tested as well at the same time, testing these injectors is fairly cheap, and why change an injector if its not faulty. Most (decent diesel) places will give you the test for free if you buy the replacement injectors from them.
