Left mine also. Although its quite new still, I wouldn't imagine there would be problems for a while.
With the old one out, its a good time to check those hard to reach chassis parts for bad rust. I ended up replacing the tubular outrigggers when I did mine, as they were completely rotten. There was also a bit of chassis patching to do.

When I removed my fuel tank it wasn't so cleaver with the top of the fuel pump being very rusted, but it is 19 years old. So it depends on how long you plan to keep it. It will be easier to do it now as the tank is already out.
I know when I put my tank back in I will be waxing it. But a new tank will stay new ish for quite a while.

Job now done. The old tank was a B to get out and the front bracket was so rusted I'm surprised the tank hadn't ended up lying in the road.
New tank was much easier to get in but I still scratched it in places so I'm pleased I didn't lavish too much effort on undersealing it first.
Oh, and then realised I hadn't left enough room to get one of the bolts for the step back in :doh:
