£800 for a clutch fitting?
10 1/2 hours? That's the stealers rate!
FFS it took me less than 5 hours to do it out in the street last time!
Oh the shame of getting old and no longer having the strength to lift the gearbox out!

Does sound steep for a clutch fitting.
As said engine lift and do it that way
You could buy the lift and fit it your self for less than that

Cheviot 4x4? Nice people but there labour rate is out of my league.

+1 on Russel offroad, good prices and a canny guy.

What's worse is that my beautiful engine is now ticking over like a bag of hammers and I have a 400 mile round trip to do again today!
I will be sitting on their doorstep at 8:00 and want some quick answers!

Got there and they said that they had not touched the engine at all, so anything wrong was not their responsibility!

I then spent the next hour smoothing out the tickover before hoofing it down to Yorkshire, where I arrived just 15 minutes before my meeting!

Over the next few days I will reset my engine back to as it was ... if I have the time!

One of the other things that really, really peed me off was that I was given a price, and then when it came to pay they added a firther 20% VAT on!! Hang on a minute, since when did a price not include VAT?

I may contnue to go there for parts as they are the nearest, but they have completely lost my trust on all other things!

Thanks for the heads up on Russell Offroad

In business to business it is accepted that prices are net, however if I went to a local shop and asked the price of something I wouldn't expect it to suddenly increase by 1/5 because their prices are ex-VAT.
The final customer should be able to expect that the price stated is the price to be paid!
iMHO of course!

After being stood for a couple of weeks as I was tied up with other stiff, she wouldn't start and the solenoid just clicked!

After 3 hours I found that the earth from the battery was bolted to the gearbox finger tight!

And these are 'experts'?

I still need to reset the fuel pump too get her running as smoothly as she did before the clutch change!

Their comment was that she's old and things go wrong!

BOLLOCKS!!!
