I had mine from an eBay shop it's a good make new - cost £330

But a bit of play will not affect the clutch - it would only make it a bit slopping on the power take up - it is the flat mating surfaces between flywheel and clutch plate that have an effect on the pedal - if the flywheel was wildly out of true it would have an effect - that is almost impossible - if the clutch plate itself is faulty that would effect it - your symptoms in mind are of air in the system - it could be the master cylinder sucking in air.
 
Right cos the mechanic said flywheel.it was noise free for the first few miles and then came the grinding.what would cause the grinding if its air?
 
Ah sorry mate misunderstood your grinding for grinding into gear! Ok grinding in drive doesn't sound good but without hearing it it is difficult to pinpoint.

Can you trust the mechanic that he has actually changed the release bearing? Have a look at the bleed nipple - is it clean and shiny? It's not impossible that the clutch plate is faulty and has collapsed.

BUT all these suggestions are just possibilities - can you take it back to the mechanic for him or her to comment?
 
Ya i trust him.bin goin to him for a while now.he does think its the fly wheel but its 300 to fit it too so not cheap
 
I know that's why I bit the bullet with mine and did the lot in one go - I was charged £200 labour to fit clutch and release and flywheel.

Mind if it wasn't grinding before it is strange it should start now as it should have been undisturbed. Did the garage advise a change of flywheel?
 
Right plot thickens.only happens when everything has heated up.first ten miles fine.then a slight whine that gets louder to the grind
 
Ok well clutch bedding in sounds right. Did you use a Landrover release bearing or an after market one? I used an aftermarket one and it seems ok but it's possible the bearing has collapsed or not sitting correctly on the mount.
 
Did you also have a new release bearing mount or bracket type thing? I replaced mine as I read they can fail which would then allow the release bearing not to sit properly and so break down.

I would suggest taking it back to your guy and get advice with the car there.
 
I think we could conjure up all kinds of possibilities - the bottom line is you will have to get the gearbox off again to find out. It certainly sounds as though the problem is in the bell housing - if it were me I would get a flywheel and the bracket thing and have on a return basis another release bearing in case.
 
ya think i will have to.drove to work and its fine when accelerating but as soon as you start to slow down it grinds like hell
 
This threads moved on from the original low clutch bite?

I know it can be difficult to describe noises but I can't say I've heard a "grinding" noise from a failed DMF.
Rattles and rumbles maybe.....but not grinding.

Is it worse in reverse gear? .....IRD?
