Thinking of getting a Sankey trailer and have been looking at Nato hitches on ebay

.
Really confused as there seem to be so many different types, backing plates (do I need one?), locking pins, Dixon Bate, military etc etc. What do I actually need for a Series 3 fitted with a standard tow ball?

Why do you want 1?? are you planning on getting a sankey trailer, or just using it as a recovery point.

I want a Sankey trailer for getting timber. Also used off road when putting out pheasant crates etc.
What do I need ... apart from a trailer

IF you havn't bought the Sankey yet .....make sure that you get a rotating nato hitch AND the right size one as well (there are some folks flogging the larger version as was fitted to the Bedford MK/ML/RL and passing them off as suitable for landrovers ....theyre not as they are bigger)
When you get the Sankey make sure the hitch is either rotating or fixed ....

The trailer part is fixed = Nato hitch on landy should be free to rotate

The trailer part is free to rotate = Nato hitch on Landy should be fixed

Both parts shouldn't be free to rotate OR you end up with odd angles between the two parts of the hitch .

As for what else you need .....Depends on how the rest of the towing gear is on your landy .
Mine is on a dixon bate adjustable drop plate so i can swap between nato and standard 52mm hitch quickly .

Good fun Laning with one though .....

I think this is what you need. This is fitted to my project ser3. Maybe the experts on here can advise you if this is the type you should be seeking.

Dixon bate style adjustable drop plate looks about right though the way it looks like it is attached to the rear crossmember looks decidedly iffy (looks like only two of the mounting holes are used unless it's just the picture angle .

As for the actual hitch DEFINITELY NOT suitable for towing a Sankey .That hitch looks like something off a lawn mower/plant hitch.

The only suitable hitch for a Sankey is the Nato approved one,And even at that i am pretty sure that it is not actually approved for road use my non military users (not that stops many folks,myself included from doing just that

)

I hear what you are saying, it was fitted by a previous owner. Here are some more from a different angle. Is it okay, it looks well fitted?

no i was looking at wrong holes normaly 4 at top 2 at bottom but yours just has 2 top and bottom

Have to say i had never really noticed ....won't go on the other way though due to the middle body tag (Truth is i didn't fit it as it was already fitted when i bought it )
It's still got the holes etc there for when the nato hitch was fitted direct to the crossmember .
