James see service bulletin 0001 Ref, L8431bu Issue 2. Dated 26/04/2000. Applying Loctite 648 to diff flange and hub splines Range rover and Disco to cure clicking noise from rear axle. :)

i was just pointing out their diagnosis of t/box which doesnt have shaft spline issue on p38 but rrc output (ftc657)certainly did ,was most likely wrong

Ok James. But his click or clunk whilst pulling away could well be the half shaft to hub or flange to diff splines. :);)

If you think a clunk is bad, wait for the noise it makes when it falls off altogether because you kept asking silly questions about it and didn't bother to check it. :D:D:D

Well the garage said it was hanging off, just wondering if it cured the clunk or they were trying to hang him out to dry.:D:D

Don't know Alan. I would think the clunk was the prop. But just pointed out that there was a service bulletin re-issued in 2000 about rear half shaft and diff pinion splines. Re-issued from and earlier bulletin because they changed the Loctite from 640 to 648. Because 640 took to long to go off. So your guess is as good as mine. Yeah maybe they had been out and bought a washing line and new pegs. :D:D:D
