I would not worry about not being able to send the gauge to the cold setting, I can't on mine. Gauges are not that precise so yours is a bit different to mine but not by a lot.
Could be wrong sensor, need to watch the figures as the engine warms as I suggested.

i would rather watch my engine temp going up than coronation street anyday.:D

just been out and warmed up the car.
Got the EDC temp up to 88 and switched engine off.
Went in to BECM diag mode and gauge temp sender, which started with a reading of 255, is now reading 230. i don't suppose that drop would be enough to kick the gauge into action.

Wammers , you don't happen to know part no. for the blue one you spoke of?

must have a look and see what colour my EDC sensor is just in case they have been swapped around.

Look at Rimmers site, part number they give is NSC100820.

Thanks wammers, just had a look and you are ,as usual spot on sir,.
looking at their listing ,it would appear i have a black air con sensor stc2254 where my blue sensor should be.
which begs the question, what sensor is in the place of my aircon sensor??
Whats the bets?
Just gotta find it now :D

Don't know, don't be too happy yet the coolant temp sensor for the aircon is clipped to one of the heater pipes, it looks sod all like the one in the Rimmers photo. So maybe the black one is fitted to cars with aircon. Can't think why it should be different though.

Dunno why myself as my car has aircon, unless its only for early chassis numbers but cannot find that info.

oh i think i saw that wee guy when i was doing the o rings last week. But as you say nothing like the black one in the picture

Ok Black sensor is correct for cars with aircon. Blue is for no aircon. How many wires go to plug?

As soon as mine is back together (it is in pieces all over the floor at the moment) I'll plug my Nano in and have a look. I imagine it'll be the same though. I'll check my sensor wire colours as well. You never know. Away the next few days but I'll be back at the weekend.

Cheers mate, and if you can let us know the colour of the sensor and if you have aircon.

its a 2 wire plug, brown/yell wire, green wire.

I don't have wiring diagrams for 2001 model. According to the 1999/2000 Rave i have they should be Black/White and Grey/Orange. At location of connector CO196D. Will keep looking my bloody head is hurting.

Not sure if they all do,but rimmer bros are showing different sensors for different chassis numbers and one stc2254 for aircon but no difference for chassis numbers.Wammers thinks mines should be blue nsc100820 but not sure yet.
If yours is a 95 i think the wiring loom is different and it has a different sensor but hey i could be wrong again :D

Mine's definitely different in the fusebox. Still, never know till you look, do you?!

No you missed a post Black is the one for aircon. I am totally confused with wire colours. Will have another look tomorrow had enough for today.

my head is fried with colours and plugs and senors tbh.
Not sure if the black one stc2254 is only up to a certain chassis no. or not, or if the blue one nsc 100820 is for all diesels with or without air con from chassis no.wa400..... onwards.
Thanks for now wammers,greatly appreciated.

Tony, I'm pretty sure when I had the manifold off last week there were 3 sensors in the block on my 2000MY.
Rod, it sounds like you have the wrong sensor, you are right a drop to 230 would barely move the gauge.
there is certainly no aircon coolant sensor visible on the heater pipes unless you meant the one next to the heater matrix?
