I've mentioned this in a couple of threads before but now I finally have some photos of it. Could anybody please tell me what manifold/turbo/down pipe this is? Engine is a disco 200tdi. I am looking to clean the engine up and start measuring up for the inlet ducting and figuring out what's going where. And I'd love to know what this lot is from.

Looks like a 19J turbo and manifolds. I suspect that the car started life with a 19J engine, and whoever converted it kept the existing manifolds to simplify the exhaust.

With a cc of 2286.
So It seems it started life as a v8 then became a 2 1/4 diesel, then 200tdi.
 
May have been cobbled together from various bits and pieces then. Provided the inlet and exhaust ports on the manifolds match the block, it should all work.
 
It works but how good I don't know, as I've never driven the thing except for moving it into the drive. I wondered if this turbo would actually have a positive effect on the engine? For the sake of a few bhp I could get rid of it and run 200di, save the hassle and expense of getting all the air ducting sorted.
 
The boost pressure is a bit lower than a normal tdi turbo (0.78 bar IIRC) but the wastegate actuator can be adjusted with the help of a pressure gauge to get it back to spec. It should work fine plumbed straight into the inlet manifold like a 19J (I recall seeing it done before on a tdi) or you can plumb it into the 200tdi radiator/intercooler which will improve performance somewhat. The non-intercooled option just needs a single pipe between the turbo and manifold, while the intercooled option needs two pipes going to/from the intercooler. Either will give better results than a non-turbo.
 
Thanks a lot Pete, you've restored my confidence in it a bit. Just got to figure out the pipe work. God I wish it still had the v8 fitted.
 
If you have the intercooler/radiator assembly, it's worth connecting it up. Non-intercooled is simpler but will mean hotter intake air which reduces power. Space for the pipes is a bit tight but it can be done- I believe the Camel Trophy TDs had intercoolers fitted, and from a pipework perspective your '219Jtdi' hybrid will be the same.
 
The exhaust rubbing on the rubber bit of the turbo oil drain ain't going to do a lot of good either.

It will help me strip the paint off the bonnet:D.

I will be addressing that very soon, along with the heater hose that's also a bit close. As for hot intake air, the exhaust was once hard up against the inlet, you can just see where it started to work away at it. The whole engine bay is on the list, I only fitted the engine in the first place to get it out of the way.
 
Hi, me again. I'm just looking at those oil feed/return lines. I would like to buy some new replacements but am struggling on part no's. The manual shows a few different ones and also the return seems to be made up of 3 pieces. Some part numbers also match the 200tdi part but the pipe looks different. If any grown ups on here could give me a nudge in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
