Sorry - having just joined the forum I'm a bit late to the party.Yesterday I did this
Today I did this
where i come from i use red oxide primer only reason why is the red oxide i use is rich with zinc, most red oxides in my country use zinc in them for extra protection.Just use a zinc rich paint, red oxide is just red primer with a fancy sounding name ( rust brown doesn't quite sound the same).
i wonder if you could use the red oxide they use when undercoating ships and other steel vessels, as they should contain zinc to inhibit corrosion that may form on bare metal on new-builds. or get a paint that has zinc phosphate in it that will work well,It seems red oxide in this country contains mainly red lol
There are quite a few spin offs from the marine world that have zinc content. I've not tried the marine stuff - some of it needs stricter health and safety than 2 pack paint and that's bad enough.
At least front dumb irons are in good nick, should look good when finishedThis is one I bought a couple of weeks ago.
Its missing a bit
Looks bostin......especially with the green woodstain on it
