bit of a sob story in a way;

I got my disco about this time last year and had some very enjoyable days laneing in it, I gradually did it up and it's a lot of fun now but I've not used it for a few months.

I also have a 2.5 ltr vectra and running the two was rediculously expensive so the landrover ended up sat. I like the vectra, it's fast and comfortable and has never let me down. Both cars cost about the same to run.

See where I'm going yet :confused:

I miss the disco but cant afford to run both, I'm going to have to choose one or the other :( Now, if I can find a cheap, reliable source of vegy oil that might sway things....

Also, I've left the club I was in where I was doing all the laneing so would need to find some other way of getting out again (as that's what I miss more than anything).

What would you do? I could always sell both and get something cheaper to run :violin:
 
or you could SORN the disco, and trailer it to pay and plays an tow it with the vectra, win win really

ok so that would be pushing it, but you could always strip all the weight off it, like the interior, or tray back it etc :D

you ever tried lifting a axle,gear/trani box or egine from a disco add that lot together and its probably more weight than the vauxhall is suppose to tow

We were running the Disco and a Mondeo 2.0 SRi, when running cost's became an issue, despite the SRi being smoother and faster it was a no brainer as to which one was getting sold ... you can do a lot more in a Disco, only sacrifice being smoothness of ride and acceleration .. oh and you don't hear a nasty scraping sound if you drive over anything higher than a mole hill;)
 
At risk of getting flamed, insurance and rego costs are nigh on identical to here, although fuel is a tad higher your end. How does running one of the most economical 4x4s and a tiny 2lt Mondeo become a running issue? They're both exceptional vehicles, which are miserly on juice, so where's the hang-up?

I manage to run a 4lt Jeep TJ, a 2.5tdi Disco, and a Cagiva Mito (all with rego, fully insured n maintained), and it's not much...surely things aren't THAT bad over there?! If so, I'd ditch the Mondeo and hang onto the Disco mate...it'll do more than the Mondeo ever will, keep hobbies and interests up, tow anything you need, carry the family and/or building materials, etc. Forego speed for absolute practicality, you won't regret it. ;)
 
My discos up for sale for similar reasons, I have a company car and my missus has a Beemer she wont part with.

But after the recent good weather I have thrown the kids and our bikes in the back of the Landy a couple of times over the holidays, then took a load of garden waste down the recycling dump and pulled a large bush from the ground with it.

I am rethinking how usefull the disco realy is, as I always considered it a winter vehicle to get us around if the weather turned bad (Floods, Snow ect)

I would sell the Vectra and keep the Disco if had your choice.

For mbikeboy;

I earn between 0 and £380 a week (average about £180), lets say I get through about a tank of fuel a week in the vectra @ £60 and possibly £80 in the landrover. Insurance is £40 a month for either and tax is nearly £200 for a year..........

Works out about £85 a week (£340 a month) - near half my average earnings to run one car, mostly getting to and from work, and that's before you factor in servicing and any repairs. YES, things are pretty bad around here. 2.0ltr is considered a fairly big engine over here too nowerdays (mine's a 2.5ltr vectra).

I do agree though, the landrover suits my passtimes much better and brings another activity I can do. I think I'll get it taxed and tested and go back to it for a bit and see how it goes, I never did get out laneing with pauld............

Are you replying to me or the OP?

How can you gloat at your motoring when you know nothing of what the OP's monetary situation is:doh: and the fact that you live in a totally different country:doh::rolleyes::doh:

Incidentally the reason I sold the Mondeo is that I had to give up my job to look after my disabled daughter (major change in income), considering I used to work 60 hrs+ a week.

The fuel cost's in the UK at the moment are averaging £1.20 a litre so running 2 cars on a tight budget is quite difficult:doh:
