A few pics of my toy i built.
A few changes since i put the M5 engine in, to be able to comp safari it. Mainly a set of Fox shocks.
Thought some of you might be interested!
Only got 1 video of me at Walters arena in oct.

no that would just be silly! plus it was a 200tdi before.
Bought the engine with loom and ecu. its out of a 1990 m5.
I've got an older 5 series, 1986 M535i which is now a turbo M535i.
Saw the engine on fleabay and thought why the hell not, never seen it done before and it goes bloody well too!

Quickest 90 I have ever driven and i've been in a few.
Once you hit 4000 rpm it really kicks in and puuls all the way to about 7500.
Got a v8 lt77 out of my old rangey in it at the mo which is a bit sick so a new one of those would help the gear changes a lot!
The biggest difference other than the extra 200 bhp is the shocks.I used to just twin shock it with de carbons when it was 200tdi but these are something else. £1200 very well spent!

None as yet mate!
got a detroit truetrak diff and ashcroft shafts in the rear and the front is still standard 1979 range rover.
Will have to upgrade eventually but as its still in one piece theres no point yet!
 
well its certainly good fun to drive! I love it!
I have a set of road tyres on it now its brilliant on the road, despite the crunchy gearbox!
 
quite easy really (well i found it easy!), got a 5mm ring of steel cut with a plasma cutter so nice and accurate.
the id of the ring was a tight fit over the ring gear on the flywheel in order to mark the holes accurately for the block. once they were done, ground it out so as not to touch the flywheel, bolted it to the engine, offered up the gearbox and drilled the bellhousing bolts. Bit hit and miss but its never going to be far out!
If (when) i take the box out i will get the bellhousing (v8 lt77) shotened about 3/4", that will have to be done by a machine shop.
The other thing was the spigot bush. used a v8 one and had a boss made up to fit in the end of the BMW crank.
I think the conversion bits cost me no more than £60 in total so that was not bad!
Clutch on the engine was by chance 240mm so just used a standard tdi clutch plate, seems to be holding fine for now!
 
Only after fitted i'm afraid. should have taken loads more but once your in the fitting mood you forget these things!

340 bhp from one of the sweetest engines ever made, wot you done to the brakes just out of curiosity?
 
Just a set of green stuff pads all round at the mo, will get some slotted/drilled discs from paddocks after christmas.
Seems to stop pretty good now though, pads are good.

you should get Sabine Schmitz to take it round the nurburgring ;)
