The rounded knob on my gear stick keeps coming off in my hand!
How would it normally be fixed onto the shaft?
Would it cause a problem to just glue it on?

(Defender 110 TD5 '52 plate' if it makes any difference)

Usually a rubber insert moulded into the knob, age & wear can make it degrade so it just pulls off.

Glue it if you like but what will happen if you need to remove it sometime in the future?
Brand-new replacements are cheap and dead easy to fit or you could go for an alloy one (if you like a bit of bling and don't mind it being a bit cold on these frosty mornings)?

Thank you!

Question was really "why would I ever want to remove it?" but now I've realised how cheap a new one is, it's far easier than messing about with glue.
Definitely not going for an alloy one, but a new black one is on the way.

Found the part numbers in case anyone else has the same question
FRC8722 if you have LT77 gearbox (reverse is top left)
BTR9270 if you have R380 gearbox (reverse is bottom right)

Sorry, but being Finnish I have to post a little comment regarding "my knob keeps coming off in my hand"........Maybe if you won´t jerk it so much.......

If I have a passenger in the Landy who doesn't know how sensitive my knob is, they merely have to brush against it for my knob to launch off. Usually into the footwell getting stuck under the pedals, very dangerous!

Smooth strokes work best what in control of a knob I find.

There are things that can be done these days for people who have such problems I believe.

I've put a bit of glue on the end of the shaft, hopefully it'll last a bit longer now!

I just part filled the hole with blue tack, that did the Job.
