DD and I went out for a spot of white laning after sortig out the EWP - which is now working flawlessly btw.

We came across these stuck squaddies waaaaaay out in the lanes of the black mountains, quite far from backup. They;d been trying to get out for some time as they had lost traction (no tratter-control) on a very slippery hill and had gone in the ditch. Pulled them out in a jiffy and then they followed us up the valley. I have to say that the Hippo went beyond excellence out there, there were some really gnarly patches that would have scared the pants off me before but it went up dow and around without a single complaint. You could feel the TC scratching around for grip but it was always finding it and didn't let go once. HDC is bloody awesome.

Then a trouble free 150 mile trip back to notts and now all is well. Turned out that the fuse was melted - I had been looking at the wrong one before turned out that one was for the spy box from my old insurance! Removed that anyway. The old controller was fakked, so it'll be going back, but I had the new one and that works fine. With the re-routed hoses the heater is roasty toasty.

So, on with the 3000 mile shakedown cruise :).

Nice one Will!

So, just to get a few things straight...

1. You thought the EWP was broken but it wasn't
2. You didn't check properly / thoroughly enough
3. You left the car in Wales needlessly
4. You missed the best of the snow in Notts?

Hey ho!

By the way - looks like your NS rear light is out.

Glad you got it back on the road.

Hehe well I'm glad it was a case of that and not a case of it being utterly buggered :D! The hose re-routing took way longer than fixing the fuses of course hehe. The controller was toasted, was doing all kinds of crazy things. All this was certainly caused by the EBP shorting out, which has now been removed from the system and won't be going back on.

The snow in Notts was nothing compared to what we were out in yesterday :). Well worth going just for that if nothing else ;)!

Interestingly, what we've ended up creating is essentially a return rail - just like the coolant rail but on the other side of the engine! Makes sense really, it seems that the EWP has simply inverted the flow. But I think we've cracked it now.

Firstly, nice job on the EWP - you've carried on long after I would've given up (I have a 44 second attention span), I really hope it's totally sorted for you now.

Nice work on the Defender recovery. Nothing brightens my day like a hippo dragging a tratter. Having had both, I totally believe that the FL with it's traction control, ABS and HDC is better in the snow than my old 200tdi 90, with it's open front and rear diffs and no gizmos. It's also a trillion times warmer.

Cheers mate :). Yes I think with the right tyres the Freelander is a really good motor on snowy roads. They might been there quite some time if we hadn't come along methinks!

I'm glad you stuck with the ewp ;)
You now know how good it feels to rescue a 4X4 that is perceived to be superior off road!! Hippo's are very under rated!! Well done that man ;)

That's 2 - 0 to the Freelander so far isn't it? Haven't read any posts of Freelanders needing to be rescued.
