So after years of deliberation my classic mini is up for sale and a replacement British classic is waiting in the wings.
This time something a little more practical for the family life I now live but also a fun project to build and enjoy.
I have brought an 87 reg 90 van for £900 which has had a professionally fitted 200tdi lump from a disco. Comes with the old gearbox plus the disco gearbox, new bulk head to be fitted when needed and also a few tools jack ect. All in all I think I have a bargain due to my pal who's selling it moving to OZ.
Ironically although my first car was a classic mini, I actually learnt to drive in disco when I was a lad away in snowdonia on a scout camp.
My new project needs a gearbox and also a few other odd and sods but my first issue is transporting the bugger from Godalming back to Orpington Kent. Was hoping to use a car trailer but the weight of the landy far exceeds what my daily driver legacy estate can tow, now just hoping Shiply comes through with a solution.
Once I get my toy tonka truck home I will need to fit rear windows for it to conform to LEZ and get V5 changed to estate and not van, it already has rear seat and seatbelt a fitted.
Gearbox wise I am thinking of an lt77 but with the disco transfer box, I would love to run an Ashcroft R380 box but funds won't allow so plan is to keep it simple get it on the road and upgrade in the future.
I will no doubt be asking lots of silly Qs along the way as I get the little tonka truck back on the road and will post piccys of my progress as I go.
