cbrr3

I leave home at 05:30 and for the first 10-15 miles is sluggish and appears to lack torque.

When it's nice and warm, it drives like a dream and pulls like a train.

Any idea's -

300Tdi
EGR removed
Snorkel fitted (but some tool also removed air filter)

Cheers

Parts of the south of France are nice.

Seriously, have you checked your glowplugs?

probably has something to do with the oil being cold too, don't forget it won't be lubricating as well as when it's got to it's normal operating temperature so surely this ain't no bad thing? As the old Castrol Magnetec Ad used to say most engine wear happened within the first 10 minutes so not being able to hammer the life out of it can only be good.

My 300tdi was a bit sluggish first thing-just changed all my oils in diffs-transfer box and gearbox-seems to have made it an awful lot better-the fact that the gearbox was overfilled with what looks like ep 90 prolly was not helping.Could not get MTF locally so used Castrol SMX-S from halfords, gearbox is so light to use now.

When was the last time it was serviced cbrr3?

Did an oil change on mine at the weekend inc engine flush (fuel filter and sedimenter changed/cleaned about 2 weeks ago) and it feels so much better to drive now. Oils were only changed in Feb/Mar time but not by me so wanted to make sure.

Next job will be diff and g-box oils :)

Other things you might want to do:

Clean the intercooler if you already havent.
Fit an air filter a new element is about £3 but not sure if you meant someone has removed the whole surround.
Fit a decat pipe about £17 but apparently makes a nice difference to power and mpg.

Get the oil changed, and the oil filter at the same time,

Oil gets alot thinner at higher temps, which decreases resistance. Thicker cold oil = more resistance, thats why it aint a good idea to boot yer engine when its cold.

For example

15w/40 @ 40 degrees is roughly 100 cSt viscosity
15w/40 @ 100 degrees is roughly 14 cSt viscosity

Intercooler flush -
I guess that's simply remove the top bar across the radiator/intercooler and it lifts out once the top/bottom hoses are disconnected, correct?

correct, people use many different things sure someone will add the best thing to use, i used system cleaner and then left hair dryer on it to make sure it was dry.
