You may have read my introduction post explaining that I am a 15 year boy....

I have a problem... Currently my Dad has a 2000 Discovery V8. We took it off roading once on this course and he loved it, I loved it and so did my brother. My Dad used to off road a lot more, before I was born, and doesnt really anymore, however I want to change that. I know he wants to do it more, as even when we move off a small road onto the verge to let a car past or when we have to tow people out of my local rugby clubs sodden car park his face lights up...

So I have a few questions.

1) How much do you think it would cost to do up our discovery to go properly off roading, including: 2" lift, winch, snorkel, Steering Guard, diff guards and some mounted roof lights, as they look cool Also including fitting

2) How much would it cost to get a fully fitted defender from around 1985-onwards, if we were to sell the discovery?

Your probably looking at £400/£500 for everything except the winch. Then a decent winch & winch bumper will cost you about £400/£500. However an hand winch or Tirfor to give them their usual name will cost you about £100 off ebay and won't need a new bumper.

For a reasonable defender with all those mods already done you'd need to budget £2,000 to £2,500 Don't get a V8 though as they don't like getting wet. Diesels are much better for wading thru water & mud.

I thought to mod our current disco would be way more than that. Is attaching those parts hard to do, or will we have to get someone to do it for us?

If so how much could that cost?

Everything just bolts on. even the lift kit is easy to fit. If you get stuck when it comes to doing the work just ask for help and someone will talk you through it or if their local may even come over and give you a hand.

Why do you need to mod it up for off roading????????????? ditch the rear anti roll bar stick some mud's on away you go

That is true, it is amazing off road, I was supriesed when we first took it off road what it could do. And I hadn't ever actually thought about not modding it, and in fact that is a great idea!

I think some new tires would be good though

I'm a dad with 2 boys. I currently take my eldest out whenever I go out green laning and he loves it.
I have a 110 county station wagon with no modifications except a CB radio to talk to others on.
I haven't broken anything... yet..

These machines are built for the slippery stuff with no mods needed. So save you pennies and your dads and get out on the lanes with other Landy owners.
Once you've done a few then work out what off road bling you might want/need/fancy

Yeah, that is what I am hoping my dad will do

However we need to find the places and green lanes, it is surprisingly hard in Cambridge
