Go and try holding the key halfway between when the electrics come on and when it starts cranking. Turn the key to position 2 (electrics on) then start turning it slowly against the spring and look for the light and stop and hold the key in that position, as long as the light is lit the plugs are powered. Once its had enough heat (10-15 seconds probably) carry on turning the key to start.there is a choke like sign that lights up but onley when engine is turning over...
Yes! Never touch the pedal during start up. The fuel pump will provide extra fuel for starting but does not do this if the accelerator is touched. My 2.5n/a will not start if I go any where near the accelerator pedal, I have to put both feet on the clutch so I'm not tempted lol. It then starts first turn.
Dont know if turbo is the same, someone will know![]()
Similar setup to a lot of plant and tractors, mate. You turn the key up against a spring, hold it for ten seconds and then turn the last bit to engage the starter. Like I said, no throttle on these as you start it.So the ignition switch on them is like a lucas type that you find on plant machinery.
Wonder if I've been doing it wrong then. Mines a 19j that is now normally aspirated. I find I have to hold it on glow for over 40 secs before cranking. I was told to hold throttle flat out doing so. Always cranks about 8 times before firing when cold. Starts instantly when warm
No throttle with DPS pump as on 19j, throttle is ok with DPA pump as found on Series. It sounds like you have issues with your glow plugs as well.
