Just bought and fitted a 14 inch moto lita wheel form mud stuff

Moto-Lita Steering Wheel Kit - Steering Wheels - Products

The boss is catching on the steering column surround making the steering hard.

Has any one else had this problem

I done the count 48 spline from mud also cross referenced the part number on the box with moto lita site and they match so assuming the correct part is in the box it's appear to be right

Hi Richard, I fitted a 15 ins Moto Lita wheel last year on a 2000my Defender without any problems. Don't know what age your vehicle so may not help.
I do know refitting the shroud can be awkward, there is one screw underneath that locates it on the steering column metal die casting which locates it so make sure that's fitted correctly. Sorry if no help.

Mines a 94 300tdi

I did remove the shroud a year or so ago to replace the indicator stalk but believe it went back together ok as I didn't notice any rubbing with the standard wheel might be worth a double check though

Does your boss look like the one in this link ?

I had similar issue with Mountney Boss (couldn't afford Moto Lita :()

I had to take the boss to work, and grind about 16th inch off it on a flat bed sander to clear the column shroud.

Hi, Richard, why are you showing picture of boss from ML site? Did you not get the boss from Mud? I have the satin black (cheaper) boss with black wheel both from Mud. Boss height from underside of steering wheel face to bottom of boss is 56mm. The boss is approx 3-4mm clear of the column shroud.

Well in the light of day it does appear to be the shroud catching in the middle the top and bottom has clearance ? So not sure if something has warped not quite together properly just surprised as didn't notice with the land rover wheel

Only linked the ml site as it was a picture of how my boss looks on it's own the same cheaper black boss but I won't be grinding it down lol for that money they can send a better one if it doesn't sit after a second look

Ok took a bit of a closer look and the shroud was only catching in the middle of the bow the top and bottom had clearance

I loosened all the screws and push it down as I done them up and sure enough it's improved it will give it a second tweak when I get a bit more time

I may have also over tightened the shroud a while ago as it looked as if it was a little distorted bulging as if done up a bit tight
