top drive

right got my door pillars and my top corners done at last - just refitting the dash - via 3 weeks working in holland and 2 weeks holiday .... its taking some time ....

i replaced the drive members/half shafts and propshaft UJs - need 1 bolt for the drive members on an 87 diskbrake axel i looked on the usual suspects but cant find this bolt - is it a standard pitch thread i could pick up from a hardware shop?

ive welded up my rear Xmember and the holes near the rear loom exit - bottom and sides

ive cleaned and painted the chassis/axels and brake hoses so it all looks good under there - brake hoses and calipers/drums were all new at last mot ...

all my electrics work

my headlight is cracked - given i got the vehicle a few days after its last mot i assume it passed the last mot like this - should i replace it for the next one ? its not full of water - its not affecting my beam and the reflector is in good nick ....

Engine leaks from the rear crankshaft seal occasionally producing a drip using about 10mm on the dip stick over 2000miles - fail ?

gear box seems to have developed a small leak building up to a drip off the drain bolt(although i will investigate blocked breather) its deffo red fluid... fail ?

i have a speed wobble when i let my passengers wheel go into a pot hole - yet i have no play in my wheels when i jack em up and wiggle em(first thought was wheelbearings/swivel pins) - could knackered shocks do that as well though ? my rear ones were new last year and they replaced the front turrets but left the old shocks on ...

I have a big truck battery under the seat - the standard clamp is in the wrong place - im thinking of just sticking a pair of slots in the box and strapping it down with a ratchet strap ? pass ?

cheers for yer help ;)

Not sure about the headlight, but the oil leaks and battery don't sound like a problem.

Don't like the sound of your speed wobble though. Think id want to get to the bottom of that.

I just look for anything major then let the mot'ers let me kno what else is wrong, no point worrying and spending time and money on things they arnt even arsed about..

yas but speed wobbles no really safe

sticking it in to an independant landy specialist whos a member of local club so may let them diagnose - they will be used to fixing them im sure

just want to get it back safely on the road before winter comes - treking 2miles down the drive with crampons isnt fun ! esp when your carting coal and shopping in !

Re: Battery - thoguht the tester wasn't meant to remove anything - and therefore removing the seat to check is a no no

That said, commonsense says it should eb secured - I've used strapping on mine, fed around the battery with 2 steel plates bolted through the battery box to secure the straps - seems to work

It all depends on who's testing, normally a cracked headlight is a fail. Oil leaks aren't an issue unless there leaking on to breaks or are safety related. The wobble could be worn bushes if you have no play on the bearings. Have you adjusted/ checked the preload on the swivels ? Ideally the preload should be checked with the rear oil seal removed.
How are the track rod ends looking ? drop arm ball joint ? is the nut tight on the bottom of the steering box ?
