RR went in for it's MOT today and failed on emissions. There's no rattle from the cats. The car has a very slight miss fire and I think the plugs are overdue a change so maybe that could be contributing?

Also worth mentioning the car has been sat, unused for 2 months. Tax and test ran out last month so only drove it about 1.5 miles to the test centre, could that effect emissions?

I know any thoughts could be '****ing in the wind' with this short description but any help appreciated.

Change plugs, leads, filters and fluids....give it a good long burn on fresh petrol for a hundred miles plus to get the fuel trim adaptions back in line, maybe take out and clean the Lambdas (or replace)...then try again!
 
Ok thanks. Big problem is that I can't drive the car. It has no tax or MOT. Letting it run is the best I can do.
 
PS It always has quite a strong petrol smell emanating from it. Not sure if this is fairly standard from those engines. I know of another that smells pretty similar.
 
i had an old mondeo which failed the mot for the same reason it had old petrol in it i didnt give it a good thrash before taking it and failed on emissions. about a mile to the test centre. i drained the old fuel stuck 20 quid of shells finest super what ever it is rebooked it and took it for a dam good thrash in 3rd gear on the way of course i went the long way to the mot centre you can drive it there with no mot and tax a s long as its booked in soooooooooooo whos to say which way you go to get there. the cats need to get up to temp to work properly.

do the same new fresh petrol stick it in 3rd not D and thrash it for an hour problem sorted ;)
 
Thanks for that. I live in the centre of Canterbury so I will struggle to get a good run going but I will work out some routes before the retest. I will do the plugs/leads anyway. Any idea if any of these 'cleaner' fluids are worth sticking in the tank?
 
Surely there must be some rule that stops you being able to book an MOT in Scotland when you live Kent etc

I have mixed feelings about cleaners... cant hurt but not sure myself

Yeah I was lead to believe when out of tax/test you're meant to book the closest test centre. I didn't quite do that but it's still very close.

I used to drive a TX London taxi and the diesel cleaner used to work well on that but I've never used one for petrol.
