Went to see a 2004 3 door 1.8 (!) that looked pretty good in the advert.
Only fault I could see was the cracked paint on the rear bumper, which I now know is because it was sprayed when it was converted from a commercial.

Then I saw there was no propshaft.

The seller (a Landrover "specialist") didn't understand the implications of this.

I was going to offer a lot less than the asking price but was told they had advertised it too cheap and were going to put the price up!
I'm only looking to spend £2500 plus any work I need to do so that was an end to it.

The hunt continues...

Did you drive it?
I recently drove a 1.8 as a potential replacement for my 2001 V6. To be honest, the 1.8 was horrible. No power, no torque but loads of engine noise. It's difficult to imagine just how different the two Freelanders feel. I decided I'd keep my V6 until I find an affordable Discovery 3.

:) My neighbour's got a black Disco 3 - to be honest I would love one but not sure how I'd park it in Clifton!

I only drove the 1.8 round the showroom car park, didn't get as far as a test drive!

There just don't seem to be many good buys round here :(

I asked an Ebay seller why he removed the propshaft.

The answer:
it's halved the fuel consumption.
underway and sump guard are all still present. The prop shaft can be refitted if required . It will come supplied but not fitted. I use the car in the city so it was pointless driving it in 4 wheel drive. It's quite a common improvement

I wish people were more honest.

Some are just thick and don't understand what they're doing and believe what the internet tells them!!

If you could stretch your budget a little I'd sell you mine, you could save money by getting a refund on the lift kit I've got for you :p altho admittedly thats only £125

Nah I still want the lift kit, just more politically acceptable if I have a car to put in on when it arrives!

PM sent re: your car

Point I was making is that mine is already lifted so therefore you wouldn't need it :p

You'll find one, there's one out there for you!

You should try finding one in NZ! Plenty of Japanese V6 imports, but not a lot else, I'm after another L Series. Having said that, I'm spoilt for choice at the mo...

300,000KMs in Chch - $2,500 Reserve - just listed
180,000KMs in Akl - Classified $6,000 - been listed ages
200,000KMs in Akl - Classified $5,000 - been listed ages
260,000KMs in Chch - Reserve $5,900 - and **** condition - I offered $1,000 - been listed ages
250,000KMs in Akl - Reserve $3,000 - been listed ages

300,000KMs is just under 200,000 miles and $2,500 is just over 1,250 quid and is probably the best 'value' but I'm sure you wouldn't pay that in the UK.

They hold their value pretty well over here! Even high milers go for decent money normally

My local dealer who sells lots of 4x4's sells a late '56 plate TD4 auto with 80,000 miles one owner for £9500. Silly money. Saying that he did drop the price to £8500 a week ago.

If people will pay him that much, he will sell them at that much. :D

Buying an used vehicle is a CHORE. I generally stay away from the "dealers", and shop private party. Used car dealers, are just that,....used car dealers. They make up stories, they mispresent facts,.....the usual.

Private party is similar, but at least it comes without dealer shennanigans.

And even then,......there is a wide range of conditions to describe the vehicle for sale, and "good", "mint", "excellent", etc. is VERY subjective. I can not tell you how many times I drove two hours away, to look at a complete POS, that was described as "mint", or "excellent". VERY, very subjective. And I do my best to ask all the right questions over the phone,...and still, a BIG disappointment.

The last time I shopped for the wife's Hippo, I asked one guy straight up,.....tell me HONESTLY what does the car need to be put on the showroom floor? And I told him it will take me 2.5H to drive to him. He said "nothing, it's totally sound mechanically, and everything is in order".

It needed tires (BADLY), new VCU, interior detail (it was a pigsty!).......

I just laughed, and walked away. Not too keen to go to jail any time soon!

sometimes it is better to walk away ,the trouble is now a days people are after money and will do anything to get it .

Give me their number, maybe they'll offer me silly money for mine to take it off my hands :D
