Hi all,
1992 3.9 Auto council spec
I've been whizzing around this morning destroying the planet and loving the RR. On the way back this morning there seemed to be a little power loss every second or so for the last 2 miles. It was quite consistent. I drove approx 8 miles this morning.

I've just tested it on idle and revved it and it seemed fine.

I've checked
leads at plugs and dizzy
coil leads
alternator ( needle was swinging wildly)
I can hear a clunk and a buzz from fuel pump
air intake for slits and splits

It just seems to be when driving along. Could this be a MAF problem and would the voltage tests show a problem? Ignition module? Coil?

The vehicle had been sitting for a few weeks

Regards

You may have a look at your alternator as the tach is wired to it and when it goes wobbly it can indicate a bad alt. Your sputtering could be due to inadequate voltage to the electrics.

I found that the tacho prob was just some broken wire. I've checked for vacuum. it appears to be firing on all cylinders too.

When I had similar problem with the disco, it turned out to be the in tank pump failing, it started off occasional then it got worse and worse then failed by the roadside luckily I had some lpg in the tanks and managed to an lpg start, once the fuel pump had cooled down it did start to work again, I am assuming that rr 3.9's have the same in tank pump.

as above. would be starting point....espically since " i can hear a clunk and buzz "

though a fuel pressure gauge would confirm..after that you own your own unless more info supplied...

Thanks.
Well, it's more of a click and a little humming, ie relay and pump

It seemed to clear it's self after a bit, but I'll keep an eye on it.
