Hi started my classic up when cold all quiete but as it warms up a tinkling sound starts to get louder as it gets warmer could it be the torque converter
breaking up/down . I have not used this engine /box as it is a replacement
for the 4.2 [ LSE ] did not have a test drive before removal .
I still have the original but dont fancy changing on the offchance .
 
Oh i hope not liner the last fecker split thats why the motor was changed .
plus the engine does not boil/overheat .
Whats the flex plate ! .
 
A bit of super glue?? wish it was so easy. The symptoms I had - when idling there was a metallic sound from the rear of the gearbox. I reved it (a very little) and the sound went away, let it idle and the tinkling came back. I knew then it was the flex plate from a previous Range Rover I had and the same thing. It was very annoying as I had just rebuilt the engine and put in a new transfer box. So for £29 for a flex plate the gearbox and transfer box came out and to be on the safe side I put in a new torque converter as well. When the old bits where out I found that the flex plate (see pics above) had completely broken and had allowed the torque converter to move forward and the torque converter bolts where providing the drive by fouling on the flywheel. Amazing I had some form of drive but another few miles and it would have been a complete disaster. But what a bother for a cheep bit of pressed out steel !

I think there are some videos on Youtube for something similar, just do a search. I hope its not your flex plate and just something simple.

Don't panic!
A moving liner has a very distinctive metallic tap, matched to the speed of the piston & evident as the motor warms up, but I would never describe the sound as a 'tinkle'
 
Aah right looks like i will put the original gearbox & torque converter back in a known good unit
should be fun :(
