Me and the missus picked up our Freelander on Friday!! :) Love it!! So comfy, smooth and you don't need to rev the nuts off it to move it too...

Gonna try taking the back off today if the weather holds up.. its 2001, 95K on the clock, fsh and MOT'd till next year, Tax till Nov. Checking through the service history - recent service April this year costing the old owners £650!! :eek:

The speaker grills look like they need TLC, and need a new gear knob too... any tips?

Good Work. Looks like a nice example. Now hope the Land Rover gods are shining on you :) - Oh and get used to strange noises, at first you will freak out thinking something is broken but most of the time it's just the freelander arsing about.
 
If the speaker grilles are the only niggle then you are really doing well :D

Funny you should mention them though - my grilles look a little rusty and I was wondering about the best way to tackle them without dismantling the whole car!
 
Yep, I can only see to take the door cards of and replace them.. I was thinking about a brush and some cleaner - but am a little unsure.

It won't be getting the top off today.. Just started downpouring here in Bucks!!
 
Replacement speaker grilles are available. I can't remember if you need to remove the door card or not to replace. It happened to mine. The door had been dismantled to replace the lock solenoid and the plastic sheet not replaced properly. I can only assume that the infiltration of damp air through the torn plastic and out through the grille had caused the problem as it didn't happen on the other side.

Hi :welcome2: plenty of do s and dont s on here in the book it says to remove the back the roof rails have to be taken off first :eek: but it can be done with them in place its a two man job theres just enough room to bring it out sideways its no lightweight either !

Did think that when I looked at it.. Worth a shot - will have a try next time the sun is out :)

As for the speaker grills, was recommended to try cleaning them :/

I did used to have a Rover 25 years ago.. always kept and eye on the coolant and water ;-)

Good habits to get into - but I think its from when I had a motorbike.. weekly checked all the levels ;-)
 
Rusting speaker grilles is a common fault on the earlier Freelanders our old 2001 model had rust on them by the time it was 2 years old.

I repainted mine on my current 1998 Freelander - you need to remove the door card then remove the grille, peel off the foam backing, sand down the speaker grille, rust treat then repaint. I got quite a good match from a rattle tin from Halfords, I can look out the colour if you need it :)
