I managed to pickup a nice mantec metal snorkel designed for use on a naturally aspirated defender.

It shoud be the right setup for my 110 as it was originally a NA and I've converted with a 200 TDI disco. I still have the original NA airbox in it and I don't have the 200 style wing.

So, this type of snorkel is designed so that you drill through the top of the wing on the passenger side. I wondered if anyone as any pics of one either fitted or being fitted. The metal pipe has two brackets attached to it when look like they should be secured to the A pillar. What I'm a bit confussed about is that there are also two other large galvinised brackets, and I'm not clear where they are suppose to go.

I'll upload a picture later.

Cool, not easy to find that, where did you get it?

If you decide not to fit it can I have first dibs :p

No kidding. I've been looking for one for ages. I've only got a few picutres of them installed, none of which have the brackets I'm looking at visible.

Got it off good old ebay. Never fitted, looks brand new. I'm guessing the person who got it never got around to fitting it.

like a southdown? thought all the mantecs went in the side wing vent

oh and second dibs :D

No, this type goes straight through the wing. There is another variant as well - maybe that uses the vent?

haven't a clue

i do fancy one though.. i was thinking of diying with a bit of stainless pipe

This is the type I mean (picture nicked from Google):

Apparently there is enough room to squeeze the hose around the heater box. It will be a mare to connect I'm sure :)

Much prefer these types of snorkel to the ones that go in the side of the wing as they look much neater and less likely to catch on things, the flexi hose on mine just looks messy and really vulnerable.

I've got the Mantec military wingtop snorkel, no need to cut holes as it fits over the wingtop vent, got it off ebay cheap but as my heater is the near side I removed the base plate, flipped it and rewelded to make it an off side snorkel....
less chance of damage being 'inboard' and very heavy duty steel...

flip front so air cleaner will be on custom bracket on o/s mounted where the aircon / second alternator usually goes, then onward from air cleaner round to turbo inlet....

snorkel flexi from bonnet to pillar will be on a quick release jubilee clamp so its a 2 second job to flip the front without the snorkel causing probs...

Looks cool :). Hopefully it will work out. I won't be attempting it until my hand has recovered.

Feel free to help me out :)

Whilst I remember, a question for the ex-mod mob. Do your trailer indicator warning lights (in the dash) work? Mine never illuminates.
