I am thinking of buying a Range Rover.2.5.DSE with BMW Diesel power
Im looking at around a P/R/S/T.Reg so 1996 1999.mod.
I have seen a few up for grabs but i thought i had better check with people who own one first.
I used to be a Toyota Surfer (YUK) got me fingers burnt with mounting running costs,so bye bye surf.
Always wanted a Rangey But as to be diesel.
Anyway i would be very grateful if you could let me know what to look out for and if there has been any reported faults on these 4X4s.

To be honest if you thought the running costs of the Surf were excessive your gonna crap yourself with a Rangie

Hi Fellah, went down the same road last year, bought a 2.5 DSE when the divorce came through (yippee). Just a couple of pointers - Check for damp carpets under the plastic plates just inside the front doors, mine went t*ts up as the water had leaked in through the cabin air intakes (pollen filters) at the bottom of each side of the screen and corrored the connectors in the front kickwells, causing the engine ecu to lose the signal from the Becm (main computer under the o/s/f seat(also made the thing a pig to drive in the rain as everything steamed up)), my RR dealer in Chesterfield diagnosed a faulty injection pump and wanted to charge silly money to replace it when it was just a bit of corrosion on a connector. Also, be aware that they can be a pig to start when hot, I bought a 'hot starting fix' ( go for the better timed relay box at about £25.00 rather than the cheap 'relay and resistor) from e-bay and having stripped and cleaned the contacts in the preheat relay, she starts fine. Apart from that and the usual (bits 'n' bobs), go for it and enjoy, just keep it serviced every 6K miles. Cheers, Ian.
