ok so am thinking my maf has had it. poor mpg and down on power under 2200 rpm. i plugged in my cheap scanner and no codes. could it be u/s and not put out a code ? also tried unplugging maf with engine running to see if there was any change. there was no change . should there of been ?
 
faulty maf wouldn't put out a fault code unless it was disconnected.

think the trick with the maf test is to drive it with it disconnected and see if it performs better with it disconnected. If so then it needs replacing.
 
ok guys having been running about with the maf unplugged now for around 30 miles there no changes. the best mpg i can get is 29/30 to the gallon driving at a constant 60mph. no change when i plug maf back in so could this be my problem ? can a maf be fulty and not throw a code up ?

Well if there is no difference you would guess that MAF is ineffective and so needs replacing.
 
ok so ive got a new maf on order should be here friday the question is when i fit the new map should i disconnect the battery so the ecu will learn with a new maf if yous know what i mean

The best price I could find from a Bosch agent was £260 :( - So I got a Synergy and a Pierburg MAF instead. :D

This Bosch one on eBay is miraculously cheap. :eek:

If you disconnect a working MAF I would expect the low down acceleration to be a tad better and the fuel consumption a good bit worse.

If you disconnect a failing or poor MAF I would expect the car to feel a good bit more lively and the fuel comsumption to drop much as above.

I wouldn't bother to disconnect the battery just to change a MAF.

If the car has an auto-box then I might just disconnect it, and the car will feel quite different until the ECU 'learns' your driving style. I didn't believe this until I tried it.

cheers for that mate the maf is dead i would say no change at all when connected or not. yes its a auto commercial i have with the seats in the back. will disconnect the battery to reset the autobox ecu
