I know this has been covered many times and have read most posts but things change - there is a big push for winter tyres opinions please and also new legislation with all sorts of performance tables
Anyone found the holy grail of tyres???
 
I have just put the winter rims on which have wrangler hps on but looking at them they must be nearly as old as me so thinking might change they are worn anyway
 
I run Cooper Discoverer M+S Sport in the winter - they're reasonably priced and perform well on wet and dry roads, with excellent grip in the snow (we had between 6 and 8 inches a couple of times last year).
 
I have a bit of a mix of fairly cheap pnes on at the the moment and it doesn't seem to matter. I've some winter ones in the garage which will go on soon. The gold standard ones (I'm led to believe) are Pirelli Scorpion ST or Goodyear Wrangler HPZq but I'm not convinced they're worth the expense!
 
Lots of good ATs out there, Yokohama GTS, Toyo Open County AT, Avon Ranger but IMHO the General Grabber ATs are the best all-rounders - staggeringly good in the snow - better than my old Scorpions in the dry.
 
Interestingly a mate uses the Toyo open country at and swears by them I had never heard of them till he bought them

No but my mate has them on his L322 and they are common in winter in the alpine areas where winter tyres are obligatory. Never heard a bad word about them, I'd get a set for winter if I had the cash as I have a spare set of 16" wheels.:)

I have had several sets of vredesteins on other cars and they are really good, hold well and last well, the only problem I found were side walls were a bit thin, but maybe in a 4x4 tyre they may be better
 
Had Avon Ranger Ice tyres on last winter and they got us to Northern Norway and back no problem. They'll go on again for winter. Although a good AT will get through most British winters.

Only really got them for the Norway trip and got them cheap off flea bay at under £50 a corner. Don't know I'd go to the extra expense usually.

I got Grabber AT2's on mine, served me well enough last winter, and just pulled me through a wkend of mud on the plains too. Even got a spare set in the garage, on rims, for when these ones are worn, coz they were too good a deal to pass up.
 
Must say the Yokohamas have a good review I had some Yokos on a car in the 80s and at the time they were ground breaking so suspect they will be very good

I've been looking round for some good value AT tyres & was recommended Insa Turbos. They look great - but on reading up - there remoulds!

Anyone got any experience with these tyres?
