hi chaps just about to buy a 1999 1.8 petrol freelander for no money only problem being though the guy said it boiled he topped it up and it ran ok for a couple of weeks then one day it stopped like it had run out of petrol when taken to garage was told had lost all compression cam belt is all good can anyone through me in the right direction please:)

I would say, sadly tisfarked.

When you say no compression do you mean in any cylinder, or just one.

either way, would point to major damage, possibly badly warped cylinder head, or cylinder head cracked.

good luck

could be just major HGF and just need a new one and a skim, but don't count on it.

You cant buy somfink for nothing, it's a gift and the bastid must hate you giving you one of them, from whats on this site the 1.8 is the worse configuration you can get.

Dont trust the garage, take the cam cover off and set up the timing and see if its ok, unlikely that it failed as quickly as that with a crack or head failure, if he totally fokin roastid it yes.

Anyway thats where I would go first.
