The steering on my Disco is a bit loose, there seems to be some play in the steering wheel. I'm going to take a look at this later when my girlfriend is back to give me a hand (can't move steering wheel and look underneath at the same time, any other ways to do this singlehanded?)

Track rod ends seems an obvious thing to check but anything else?

Also, is there any way to replace track rod ends without having to get the wheels tracked again? Count the thread turns?

Check the UJs in the steering column too.
Yes, just count the threads when replacing TREs - it's a Landrover, not a Ferrari!

Wind them on up to the crud-line ! Or wire brush them first and mark with some quick dry paint. Nail varnish is handy......no need to use your best Sally Hansen,the cheap stuff from the market will do....and dont let any of those nasty rough men see up your skirt while you are doing it ! Sorry,got a bit carried away...

......dont go taking the track rod ends off just yet,theres plenty else that can cause this. Do a good search,theres stuff under "wheel wobble" and various "steering" headings but use the site search function not the google one at the top. You can test the links like track rods ends by using a bar to rock them like the MOT bloke does,gives you a rough idea whether to investigate further.Then theres all sorts of PAS things and the steering column link to look at,so work your way along from the top looking for obvious faults or excessive play. Its often something visually or manually obvious. I hope....

Will work my way through the system, it should be fairly obvious when I find it. It is almost the weekend so i'll have my nail varnish out later anyway
