Hi all,

I am looking for a new battery for my P38 2.5DSE, any ideas out there to what I should be after?

Over here in Portugal when I last got a new one they plonked a 70amp thing under the bonnet. I said there and then that I reckoned it was a tad smaller (both in Amps as in size) than what I was expecting.

I have read else where of people plonking in 115amp heavy duty ones in and to me that sort of sounds right, but I might be wrong.

Measure the size of the battery space, all three dimensions, then note which way round the terminals are and go to whatever suppliers that you can and ask what they have that will fit into the space. At least that way you should get the most powerful available to you.

cold cranking amps, the more the merrier, but as you are in portugal its not essential that you go for a massive number.

As above..

Thanks for explaining the CCAS, I've been out of the UK too long:D

Right, here are the details of the battery I mentioned above:

Caracteristicas tecnicas:

Make: Tudor

Volts: 12
Amps:115Ah
CCAS(NE): 870A
Dimentions: Length:349mm. Hight:175mm. Width:235mm.
Disposición de polos: Positive right

Theres always a fierce debate about batterys...its horses for courses..i needed a lot of ccas cos i was in scandinavia..you may put more emphasis on something else, what extras you got on the landy? Do you use the aircon a lot, is your alternator good/powerful enough?

You may want to consider red top or yellow top batterys, high price but very reliable..again, if budget is your main concern then as mentioned, measure and find one in your price range.

That battery looks fine..

Optima always had a good reputation, but some years back they sold out to Johnson Controls and the manufacturing was moved to Mexico. Since then there are a lot or reports about failures/short lifespan.

I had really good luck with Exide Orbital AGM's.
Odyssey (made by Enersys) are very well respected AGM batteries. They also sell it with different labeling as the Sears Diehard Platinum for a good deal less. May not be available in the UK, but they sell it rebranded as something else there.

Google (or what ever you use) type 642 battery, thats what I have on my dse 1000cca 120 ah. Got mine from local tractor parts place. ( yes I know dse is a tractor before anyone says it)
