Hi all.
Don’t own a Discovery, but joined hope because…..

In 2009 I purchased the registration E5 NEM and put it on my Audi A4 Avant. For numerous reasons I had to sell the car before I could transfer the plate off.

This registration is currently on a 2010 Discovery with a valid and active MOT.
I am trying to locate the owner so I can investigate if it may be possible to get the registration back.
As I’m sure everyone is aware, I am prevented from obtaining this information via DVLA; so I am actively posting on all socials and asking everyone to forward my request as far as possible and repost across as many social media sites as possible to try and get to the right person.

Could you offer any help please by posting in any other forums/messaging systems/Socials you have?
I would really appreciate any help you could offer.

I do not want any contact details. I am happy to pass my own details on and leave it entirely to the owner of the plate to decide to make contact or not.

The plate means a lot to me, as I’m sure it does the current owner of course. But I would welcome any opportunity to investigate getting it back.

Have you tried the v888 form from the dvla ?? You need a valid reason for requesting the info.

Hi mate.
Thanks for the reply.
Haven’t filled in the form no. Rang DVLA about how to request this kind of info and was told this wouldn’t be considered a valid reason for them to provide details under GDPR.

If the sale of the car explicitly didn’t include the private plate and is written on the receipt as such then can’t you just apply by post as you don’t have the V5C and have it removed as you own it? obviously the current owner will be unaware and will be driving with wrong plates so better to find the person really.

If you sold the car and there was no mention of the private plate at all, then you’re out of luck and at the mercy of finding the current owner of the plate cause it ain’t you anymore. Be prepared to open your wallet too.

Thanks Luke. You are correct mate with your last statement, and this is entirely down to me. We did speak about the plates when I sold my Audi, but for reasons I won’t bore you all with (Taking a job abroad the following day) I couldn’t do anything at the time.

Now I am back in the UK, I can see the plates have been transferred to a Discovery and the guy I sold my car Audi to isn’t the owner. He told me who he later sold the Audi and plates to and it isn’t them either. So it seems the plates have been sold/transferred a couple of times.

As they are still live, someone suggested I try the owners clubs. Clearly whoever owns this Discovery loves it, one of the recent MOT’s will have been costly to correct going on the publicly available failure report you can access.

So was just trying in the off chance they are a member on one of the club sites.

If anyone has access to any of the paid club and message boards or groups, would really appreciate a post. Or just on the off chance anyone sees it at a meet or event, please point them to my posts.
