Hi I wondered if there is any way I can lock/unlock my 2000 freelander without useing the fob and activateing the alarm. I am concered as we dont have a EKA code if the fob was lost, damaged etc so was wondering if we can avoid activateing alarm. Am i correct in saying engine immobilser is deactivated when key is in igniaiton? Thanks

use the key in the drivers door, turn it once to lock it without the alarm, then again to superlock and set the alarm.

some later versions of the freelander rely on a transponder chip in the key which is sensed by the ignition barrel, the very early versions relied on a signal from the unlock/lock fob.

a good way to test whether you could gain access and drive away without the fob is as follows. take the ignition key off the key ring with the fob.

lock the vehicle using the fob, so it superlocks and the alarm is set. Take the fob well away from the vehicle, e.g. indoors.

then unlock the drivers door with the key, turn once drivers door unlocks, turn again they all unlock. then see if you can start the engine. if you can, happy banana, irrespective of what happens to the fob, you'll never get stranded all the while you have the key.

This is hardly "getting around" the security as Optimus is telling them to USE THE KEY AND THE FOB. The OP didnt ask for a way around it .. merely how to avoid using it in the first place.
