been having a bit of a moment with my passenger side front door, it started several weeks ago, when the door not closed message came up on the dash board, but the door was shut, opened and closed it and it went away, its gradually got worse and now it does it every time i get in the car, i've had the lock out of it, cleaned it, greased all the linkage's and it went away for a day,now its back and its driving me mad! any idea,s how i can check if its the lock or the out station? i've done a search but it all seems to be about burnt out locks and dodgy boot buttons, all answer's will be gratefully recieved before i take an axe to the bloody thing!!!!:(:(:(:(:(

It'll be the lock, but not the linkages.
There is a microswitch inside the mechanism that tells the outstation/BECM if the door is closed or not. If the microswitch is on it's way out no amount of cleaning or lubricating will repair it.

thanks guys i will start looking for another latch, is the MGF latch a straight replacement?

The one I had wasn't, although very similar. The components just click in and out though so just disassemble, swap over the bits you need and reassemble.

+1 depends on the MGF year. Mine looked identical, but only drivers door was the same. On passenger side I used the MGF motor in the P38 door lock, because the microswitches were different.
