As title says, ordered a bottle of LiquiMoly air flow sensor cleaner, sprayed it all over my 10+year old MAF sensor (just took the middle bit out to make life easy)
Wow, I mean WOW, like totally WOW.
Ok, so it's expensive contact cleaner, but buy some, spray it at your old MAF and you won't believe it.
Any way, I'm not payed to say this stuff by anyone.

Does it list the 'ingredients' on the tin ? - sounds like a good oxidation remover.
As for being busy - tell me about it - not the sort of 'busy' I would like to be either :(

i recently took my map sensor out my D3 , could have done with this stuff, lol

had to use carb cleaner instead

one egr bypass planned

ur telling me , would have given my freelander a good run for its money , :D:D

it sounds a lovely engine

i even found the dashboard settings, inc the bit where it locks the doors automatically whilst doing along :D
 
Would be interested to know the cleaning process.
What's involved? Is there anything to avoid doing.. anyone willing to educate a Numpty on the subject, I would be very grateful.

yeh i will fall for it, knowone is a numpty as i hold the crown for that :D

i used a carb cleaner , put the tube and gently spray down the hole of the sensor, be careful as there's a delicate sensor at the end, so don't push the tube down far, just enough to stop the spray going everywhere , i used a small tool to gently scrape of the crap , take ur time and be careful

the fault was it wouldn't pull up a hill and very gutless , after cleaning the torque came back

but will do an egr bypass to stop this happening again

Sorry, I should expand.
It's a glorified contact cleaner, with a few extra chemicals to strip crud. Moves sludge, mud, oil, carbon and stuff 'stuck' to the hot wire. There was a bit of oxidised metal on a small inline resistor and it didn't touch that.
I would guess if the hot wire was oxidised, you'd need to replace the MAF, as the resistance in the wire would change as the wire would be thinner once the oxidised material was removed, if you see what I mean:confused:
But I'm not qualified enough to guarantee that statement:)
