We have owned our 2002 L322 for over a year and bought it with this light upgrade which I think is called either a 2006 facelift or a 2009 S/C. We had a problem with the brake light on constantly along with HDC and Air Susp inactive recently and ended up going to the dealer who diagnosed poor and corroded connections for the new lights wiring. Its all fixed now but they recommend "refitting correct lights" as the LED's can confuse the ECU and cause problems.

I cant find much on anyone else having similar issues. Is the dealer just playing it safe ?

LEDs can cause problems if they don't draw the exact power as the OE bulbs, quite common with cheaper LED lights, they aren't a bother with older vehicles but can throw up all sorts of errors on newer ones. What it means is you have to buy the LED bulbs that are designed to use just as much power as the OE bulbs but convert it all into heat to prevent various error messages on your dash.

They are identified by having huge heatsinks on them and cost about ten times as much as normal bulbs.

I have facelifted mine and had no issues

Probably been wired wrong

Good luck putting the old lights back, the body brackets would have been hacked off to get the facelift lights to fit.

Where abouts are you located?

Hi, thats great news. dealer over reacting then. They were fine for a year anyhow, it appears the PO had done a poor job of insulating the connections and dampness was causing the issues. I am near Glasgow and it hasn't stopped raining for a few months now.

How were the connections made ? Chock blocks ?
 
They were bullet connectors but we had water ingress in the boot due to a faulty tailgate seal which didnt help

There's a solution to this on rangerovers.net involving bending the metal lip the tailgate seal sits on outwards by 5mm. Apparently a recommendation from Landrover.
 
Bullet connectors !!! no wonder why...

DIY job !

re-do the connections but this time with solder and heatshrink.

Are the brake lights not LED ?

There are about a dozen small lights making up the brake light - I am sure these are LED although I notice behind the unit there is some kind of resistor wired in parallel with these bulbs and we have had no issues since the corroded connectors were repaired just didnt like arguing with the dealer that there are no LED's when in fact there are.

Yes no LED's on the 2006 - 2009 front lights

I thought you was taking about the front lights before ?

The rear lights will have led's. 2002-2009 had LED brake lights correct

2010 on had full led rear lights and front LED side lights

Has the resistor been fitted on the rear lights ?
So you have the new 2010 full led rear lights then ??

You sure about the LED rear lights? Looking at a TDV8, the lights had internal plastic mouldings that made them look like LED's when lit, but it was a normal bulb behind the plastic. Could be different for the French market I suppose.
 
The bottom circle is split horizontally having a tail light bulb ( Diadem ) in each half. The top circle has a bulb for the indicator but looks like LED,s for the brake light and a resistor is wired into this.

On the French one, behind what looks like LED's in the top light, there was actually a normal tungsten filament light:confused:
 
Thats fine. I think the resistor is there to stop any problems and the dealer was just covering his back saying put get some original lights back on. PowerfulUK have a good diagram showing the half dozen different rear lights used on the L322.

BTW the dogs are only in the car for posing purposes. They have to travel in the old Classic lol
 
Ive just found out:

A) The top half of the lower circle is not another tail light, its the fog light.

B) The standard light unit DOES also use LED's for brake light ( not just the high level one ) so the dealer was talking tosh.
