Why ! I'd spend the money on getting you out when you get stuck or some good mud tyres.

Definately consider some 'mud' tyres first, as well as a good tow rope.
There is nothing to be feared from suspension lifts. Done right they can help a lot. You just need to appreciate that there can be more to it than just fitting some springs and shocks.
Having said that, all I have done is fit springs and shocks to the Discovery. Been like it for 8 years now and never had any of the tales of woe that you hear.

I've bought a 1" lift kit but not fitted yet. But you should be fine without one to be honest. We just bought it cos we were in a good position to ours has seen us right so far. The only real problem we've had is the nut holding the drivers seat to the steering wheel.
Go for decent tyres first I'd say.

hiya mate, i have put on some 235/85/16 insa turbos and 2inch pro comp lift kit. its very capable offroad.

sorry to nip off topic here mate, but are these tyres taller that 235/85/16 ? im trying to get more clearence on the diffs,

Tyre size is width/profile(% of width)/rim diameter so a 235/75/16 is 235mm wide and 178mm high on a 16"rim.

The 'Police spec' HD springs are the usual budget option with a set of gas shocks. IIRC you may need some spring packers to level up the rear end. Your best bet is to get some of the genuine spring isolators (p/n ANR2938) and use them.
As an alternative.....a mate had a ProComp 2 inch kit on a D90 and it had lots of flex. Was a few years ago now but I would estimate about £300 for the kit.
