Does anyone have any practical experience / success / failure with TFL as regards Counties ?

I'm looking at buying a '93 200TDi which I'm pretty sure is a genuine County (if not, it's a helluva good conversion - wheels, decals, sunroof, seats, headling, radio, all check out) and the VIN checks out as a 3 door station wagon (as opposed to 3 door commercial), yet it comes up on the LEZ compliance checker as being non-compliant.

Presumably thiere's an error somewhere as I think it should be compliant (shouldn't it?) but, if there is an error, is it possible to convince TFL of this ?

The car will have to go into London now & again, so if I'm not almost certain it can be made compliant then this will unfortunately be a deal-breaker. Which would be a shame as it's a nice original old thing.

If it's a genuine station wagon then it should be compliant regardless I'm lead to believe. If you do a my car check on the vehicle if it come back saying "light 4x4 utility" then the likely hood of it being a genuine station wagon are very slim.

There is tons of info on this on the site. As you can imagine it was a big subject when LEZ was announced.

Use the search button its ^^^ up there ;)

The bottom line is, you can get it changed in certain circumstances but you will have to prove it to the people that matter.
 
from my experience.
tfl make their decision based on what it says on the v5.
so contact dvla and see what they can do.

I did do a search on LEZ at the outset, but all I got was 'hot sexy singles' or something - surely more interesting but not what I was looking for !

Yes, that car checker does indeed say 'light 4x4 utility' which explains the non-compliance, although this Landy is a County if ever I saw one. Waiting for the vendor to come back with the VIN which should tell us whether it shows a station wagon or not.

But the good news seems to be that, regardless of the present circs, Tfl and / or DVLA can re-define it as a station wagon anyway, so not as much of a problem as I'd thought.

Mine was '4x4 utility' on the V5 (as it made no odds in 2000 I think LR just put them all down as such), at Tfl and DVLA suggestion I got Land Rover to confirm it was built as an 'estate/station wagon' (which I am sure they would only do if that was indeed the case); sent this to DVLA with V5 amendment section completed; got new V5 after a couple of weeks with 'estate' in the vehicle type; sent copy of that to Tfl (with up to date photos showing it still is CSW) and got letter confirming their records amended to show no LEZ compliance needed.

And haven't been to London once since then .......:rolleyes:

As long as yours was built as a CSW should work too...? Good luck, A
 
Just a post-script here: I've got confirmation of the VIN from the vendor and the 7th letter is a B, thus confirming it as a 90 Station Wagon. So I'll have to get DVLA to correct it as it's presumably their error.

Your VIN is on the plate by the servo and tucked into the dash left side of windscreen and on the v5 ...... and a few other secret places.....

IMHO even if the VIN confirms it was built as CSW, your V5 probably says 'light 4x4 utility' in section 4 if Tfl have you as a 'pariah'. If so, you'll need that Land Rover letter on original build to persuade DVLA.

not got a county I`m afraid, but a disco 200 dti.
I am pleased its not declared as antisocial for LEZ as a daughter lives just inside of the all seeing eyes of the LEZ cameras @ near the M25..
I do check periodically that its still ok to use though...just in case..

LEZ is solely for 'commercial vehicles' (for now....!!) so Disco will not get caught unless it was the van version....... A

think thats why landy minded people who need a van, but not the LEZ fines, buy old discos and just happen to take the rear seats out for cleaning :rolleyes:

in a weird world we live in (in or out the LEZ)
petrol engined vans and camper vans live on happily within the LEZ,
where once upon a time even blind barge poles never worked..;)
 
Got this sorted fairly easily in the end.

The problem was that the supplying dealer had wrongly registered it as a utility, so I just sent DVLA a couple of pics and the Land Rover VIN decoder and they changed it to station wagon.

Took just a few days to become LEZ compliant after that.
 
Mine is a genuine county (so says the VIN code) and comes up correctly on the LEZ checker, yet the V5 shows it as 'light 4x4 utility'. It appears to be a bit random as to whether you ended up with that or 'estate' as I guess that this is one of the many cases where a 90 doesn't really fit into one category or another.
