:mad:I have a HID headlight conversion on my 1991 Defender 90 but was after either led side lights or some kind of ultra white sidelight. I heard the polarity is different on the Defender however and LED bulbs aren't compatible without modification. RDX sell some really nice replacement sets but they are over £100 (for the lot mind you, brakes, indicators, fog lifts etc). Not after forking out that much at the moment however.

Anyone know any brands that work with the 200tdi or what to modify to get the standard ones to work?

Don't believe the polarity is different.
Could be the leds do not draw enough power to light up to there full potential. If i remember there needs to have a resistor in the power feed for side lights

These are all I find under Defender 'LED' sidelights. They look great but too expensive for me to buy just at the moment. Maybe eventually though. Mentions that resistors and a relay is needed for the indicators, not too sure about just side lights though.
 
I think you may find the later LED's are not polarity conscious. Well my last lot weren't.

Your parking lights should be wired with pos in the center.

I just removed the lamp from my parking lights and fitted the LED.

I've been using LED lights since 2005 with no problems

Polarity is the same on a Defender as any other car. Just swap out the lamps with LED replacements. Been using them in all my cars for years.

Sounds good! May have to invest into some clear lenses and powerful LED bulbs then! Do you need to alter the wiring for them at all? To put less power to the LED's?

An LED doesn't have a bulb. A bulb is part of a lamp.....

You shouldn't need to do anything to the wiring. An LED uses less power so thinner wiring can be used.

I'm building a trailer. All interior and exterior flood lights will be wired wit the thinnest wire I can get. The two flood lights on the side of my Defender are Defender reversing lights fitted with 21 watt equilent LED's. I used the thinnest wire I could get, Super lights.

No changes to wiring needed except that some indicator LEDs need ballast resistors or they dont flash. Or you can get a replacement flasher made for LEDs.

Nope, negative earth so not going to be a problem there. You might be thinking about loadings for indicators putting the relay into dead lamp fast flash mode, but again not a polarity issue.

A bulb is part of a lamp.

A bulb encloses the filament and filament holder on the base. The base has the cap fitted into it.......unless it's capless

An Iodine lamo doesn't have a bulb, it has an envelope of quartz over the filament and fliament holder

What you call Halogen was originally developed by Phillips of Holland in 1959 and later the name Halogen was given to it after Thorn EMI developed the H4 dipping lamp.

An LED is an LED....

The wattage for a front facing parking light is restricted to 5 Watt by law

You are allowed by law to replace a light with an LED light. You may not by law remove a lamp from a light and replace it with an LED. Well I have and so far nothing has happened
