my p38 is ****ing derv again.
every couple of years it happens bloody bmw crap,
? anyone else had this on going prob,

Just fit a seal kit and use my how to guide

I did. Thanks again Dave.:)
It wasn't as difficult as you might think. Mind it did take me the best part of a day. Mostly taking other stuff off to get access to the pump and then putting it all back together. Take your time and keep everything really clean. And make sure the big O ring is properly seated (no crap from the old one left in the groove) so you don't nip it when pulling it in.
But as far as I know mine was the first change in the Rover's lifetime 16 years.
What do you mean, happens every couple of years, BMW crap?:confused:
Do they even make the pump? (genuine question)

It’s a Bosch pump. They were designed for fuel with higher sulphur content than we now have can cause more wear than usual with rubbers/seals

Was it cheapo gaskets? You could try tightening it a little but if it’s piddling out and a good pump then seal it on with hylomar instead of a rubber gasket?

No issues. In addition to the squarish seals there's one round one each side. The one nearest the engine is a bugger to access and there's a spring that jumps out.

If it is coming up to 150k miles I'd be tempted to put a refurbished pump on if funds allow.

143,000 and counting...:eek::p

I started off with same issues as Johnny Crash. Seemed new FIP and CPCS or scrap at time, I’ve done everything but, as the FIP is big bucks and he had issues for years so didn’t solve it in my time frame/budget.
it runs okay now with the old one. There are some marks on head bolts so someone has been in there previously is a worry but no leaks so I work around it for now. Do want to reset static timing for wear buts my daily driver. If it has to come off then a diesel jones recon would be my preferred path

im putting it in garages to be done year latter same again.
they told me pump out next time

I would be sure to get the exact same seals as someone on here that has already done it with lasting success, it has to be the seals or bolts/threads as it couldn’t warp that much surely?

Glad it all worked out ok there isnt much point people swopping out pumps when its not needed and if its leaking then nothing to lose :)
