I was filling the radiator header tank yesterday when I head the sound of dripping... I traced it to a leak from the (nearside) middle of engine block (just above the engine mounting)... it was pouring out of a round edged hole about 1" x 1/2". I've no idea what the hole is for.



Any ideas how to get it sorted?

core plug?

tiz a core plug - cheap as chips.


get the replacement one.
tap one side of the core plug in
use a screwdriver to lever the old one out
cover the new one in zinc rich primer
paint the inside of the new one
put plenty of hermatite around the edge
tap in so that outer lip is flush with block

simples

Def a core plug, as above simple job if you can get at it easy.

They are there for if you freeze your enjun in the winter the core plugs breaks and not you enjun...

no they arent, there there so hold internal mould for casting block,they often pop out if block freezes but dont stop it cracking somewhere else

Always thought the the frost attacks the weakest part i.e popping out the core plug to relive the pressure and not cracking the block... but then again it was a long time since it did my YTS

Deffo sounds like a blown out or leaking core plug.

Anyone for a cuppa??

Hi all,

Dumb question: Which type of hermatite should I use for this job? there are several, 'strenghts'/colours?

You won't go far wrong with the green.

Make sure that everything is dry first!
