My Seies 3 is currently fully disassembled (to the point that it's just a chassis sitting on the floor). The MOT runs out early next month. Do i need to put it on SORN before then? The tax and insurance doesn't run out until next spring.

Thanks for any info.

Absolutely.
Sorn it and claim the remaining tax back.

I should have added that It's tax exempt so there's nothing to claim back.

Wouldn't have said you need to sorn it until the (free) tax is due. Lack of mot Is only a problem if you drive it or park it on a road.

Just to jump on the back of this thread, mine hasn't been on the road in 6 or 7 years and I don't remember ever sorning it. Nothing from dvla in post in that time either. Am I going to have to answer some questions when it comes to getting him back on the road?

Yup its unlawful to keep a car and not tax or sorn it. You may find you get away with it. If I ever look at a car to buy I do a dvla check, if its been road fund unlicensed (tax) for more than 3 months I would walk away as if they felt nasty the authorities could crush the car. So write dvla a nice letter saying why you havent done anything and you will possibly be ok

Under the current rules do you not also have to keep it insured even if not on public property?

Thanks for the replies.

The tax disc runs out next March, the insurance a few months after that. I may or may not have it finished by then (probably not). What was originally intended to be a bulkhead replacement turned into a full rebuild down to the chassis.

I had insured it a few weeks before I decided to do any of t the work. I didn't bother cancelling that as I thought I would have it fiished by the next renewal date. I thought I may as well get a year's no claims while I had it in bits.

So will I get any suit and sunglasses wearing government agents chasing me for expired MOT even if it's still officially taxed and insured?

The expired mot will cause no problem, it's only a problem if the insurance runs out while still taxed, you'll get an auto fine if that happens.
